Designing book cover, layout and content of cookbook
In this assignment we were tasked with designing a cookbook.
All of the recipes and text were given to us by Noroff.
We were given complete freedom to interpret the task as we wanted.
I started the project by making all of the dishes from the book, photographing the individual ingredients and finished dishes. I then used Adobe Photoshop to trace the pictures so that I could add them to the illustrations and create collages I also edited the colour of some of the photos to make sure that they were consistent.
Because this was a book for parents of young children, I wanted the book to be appealing to children while also including step by step instructions for accessibility.
I chose a dinosaur theme because of their popularity among children as well as having a natural feel.
Having researched cookbooks for children, I found that the most popular books borrowed at the library contained photographed food elements with textured illustrations or collages.
To give texture to my illustrations I drew the figures on my tabled in white, isolated the layer and painted with watercolour, and shading with dry gouache finishing with pastel details.

What I have learnt from this experience
In this project, I was able to improve my food photography and image editing skills.
I learnt about colour management and the use of CMYK.
I also learnt the process of producing a print-ready document, managing its layout and composition as well as making sure that the product followed a consistent design and theme.
This was a very large project which required a lot of planning and time management.
If I could change anything about the project now, I would have removed or significantly altered some of the step by step pages as I feel that they are not of a high enough quality and clarity. I may also have changed the sizing of some of the text.
